Ball bearings.-A self-adjusting and self-alining ball thrust bearing for shafts comprises two sets of balls 1, 2, Fig. 9, which bear against a collar 3 secured to the shaft, and against thrust rings 6, 7 the outer edges of which have a spherical seating in a ring 8, so that -the bearing accommodates itself to tilting of the shaft. The ring 8 is capable of sliding vertically between guiding-parts 9 on the framing. The balls are held in cage rings 4, 5. To enable the inner parts to be inserted, the ring 8 is provided at both sides with two openings 11, Fig. 3, so placed that the inner rings can be introduced when turned at right-angles to the ring 8. In a modification, two elongated recesses are formed on one side only of the ring 8, and in another modification the recesses 11 are dispensed with and the rings 3, 6, 7 are cut away on two sides, without interfering with the ball tracks, to enable them to be introduced into the ring 8. The bearing may have one set of balls to take thrust in one direction only.
