Superheaters, steam; domes.-A superheater B of ordinary construction in the smoke-box of a locomotive boiler is connected by flow and return pipes with the steam dome, which is divided into two portions by a horizontal partition a, in such a way that steam taken at g from below the partition is passed through the superheater and returned to the dome above the partition. The partition is fitted with a slide valve b by which direct communication with the upper portion of the dome is established when it is desired not to use the superheater. The connecting-pipes are also fitted with valves.
