Abstract

4258. Jacobus, M. R. March 6. Heated surfaces, preventing denudation of by water; steam separators.-Relates to steam boilers for heating-systems. On one side of the boiler is mounted a drum B at such a height as to be normally about half full. It is connected to the steam space of the boiler by a pipe 3, to the water space by a pipe 7, and to the return tube of the system by a pipe 2. Should the water flow from the boiler at lighting-up or at other times, the deficiency is made good by the drum B, which also accommodates any excess. The steam generated in the boiler flows through a downwardly-directed nozzle 10 into the separator S, which is connected to the drum B by a pipe 11 or passes into it as shown in Fig. 3.
