8559. Kirby, G. April 12 Theatrical appliances.-Relates to 'flying' apparatus. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement for lifting or lowering an artiste from or to either side of the stage. The rope M, which passes round the pulley P of the traveller T, is wrapped round a sheave on the drum G, and the rope J attached to the traveller is wrapped round another sheave on the same drum. Two other sheaves on this drum, having their ropes wrapped in opposite directions, are connected by the bight S, while the rope of a fifth sheave is connected to the india-rubber cord J' shackled to the stage. Modifications are described for lifting or lowering one or two artistes vertically.
