Windows. - The sashes 4 are hinged within sliding frames 2, which are provided with racks 6 engaging with intermediate pinions 7, so that the upper sash is balanced and operated by the lower sash. The sash and sliding frames are rabbeted to exclude draughts, and prevent the insertion of a knife or implement between the meeting-rails for the purpose of unfastening the window from the outside.
