Window opening and closing apparatus ; windows ; window holders.- Sliding sashes are operated and held in any position by means of a worm 1, Fig. 2, fitted to the sash and engaging a fixed rack. The worm is actuated by bevel gearing driven by a removable handle, in which are grooves fitting over the pins 13. The side of the window, opposite to that in which the operating-device is fixed, is arranged as shown in section in Fig. 6. When placing the sashes in position, the outer sash 27 is first fixed, then the parting-bead 29, the batten 31, the inner sash 28, and, lastly. the stile 34, which is hooked to the frame 24.
