Abstract

188,522. Cockburns, Ltd., Cockburn, D., and MacNicoll, D. Nov. 2, 1921. Fluid-actuated valves. - In an emergency or automatic stop valve, the valve spindle 1 has a piston-like collar 3 and is prolonged upwards through the hollow regulating spindle 4, which has an enlargement 5 presenting a jointing surface with the upper surface of the collar. When steam is admitted between the collar and the enlargement, the only resistance to be overcome on closure of the valve is that due to the adhesion of the jointing surfaces of the collar and the enlargement. The passage of steam to the cylinder containing the piston-like collar is controlled as described in Specification 179,105, steam being permitted to enter the space between the collar and the enlargement of the regulating spindle when the collar is depressed.
