Variable-speed toothed gearing.-In means for facilitating the engagement of sliding spur wheels for speed-changing, &c., the sliding wheel M engages first with an auxiliary loose toothed wheel B connected to the shaft G by a coiled spring E and carrying stops H which contact with similar stops on the main wheel A fixed to the shaft, so that the wheel B is turned resiliently a part of a revolution and stops with its teeth in register with those of the wheel A.
