Gearing-up and gearing-down arrangements.- In driving mechanism for cycles and the like comprising a hub B with an internal toothed annulus A, a driving-pinion C in mesh therewith carried by a sleeve D eccentrically mounted in plates E rotatable in the hub, and preferably means P for limiting the rotation of the plates, a free-wheel mechanism is interposed between the sleeve D and the pinion C. The free-wheel according to one form comprises teeth on the sleeve meshing, when in gear, with teeth on the pinion, which slides upon the axle. and a spring tending to keep the parts in gear.
