Abstract

184,963. Chapman, A. D. July 9, 1921. Stropping-apparatus.-A device for sharpening safetyrazor blades comprises a frame 1, 2, in which are mounted spindles 3, 6, the spindles 3, 6 having knobs 7, 11 fixed thereto so that a turnover motion can be imparted to the frame. On imparting this motion, a sharpening-wheel 9 slidably mounted on the spindle 4, which is of D or other section, is traversed along the edge of a blade a@ by means of a threaded bracket 8 mounted on the spindle 3. The blade is held in a holder 12 frictionally mounted on the spindle 6, which rotates the spindle 4, at an increased speed, through a train of gears 14, 10, 15. When the wheel 9 reaches the end of the blade, the apparatus is turned over in the reverse direction, thus causing the blade-holder to swing over and piesent the other side of the blade to the wheel, which travels back along its spindle. The spindle 4 is removable from the frame, being normally retained therein by a slidable clip 16, for the purpose of changing the wheel 9.
