Abstract

Pencil-holders.- In a pencil-holder of the screw-propelled type, the rotating member 13 is sprung on a reduced end 10 of the casing 1 and has a slotted tube 9 secured to it by a tapered pin 15. The slotted tube contains a follower 7 provided with nicks 8 which engage internal screw-threads 6 in the casing 1, so that when the member 13 is rotated the lead is fed forwards. The casing 1 is tapered and has a split end to grip the lead 3. The movable member 13 has four or five slots towards its end 12, which is shaped to spring into a nick 11 in the casing; a similar clip 16 holds a cap 17 at the other end and provides a chamber 18 for lead refills. By turning the member 13 in the direction opposite to that for feeding the lead forwards, the follower 7 bears against the end of the pin 15, and further rotation disengages the casing and rotating member.
