Abstract

Cylinders, cooling. - Aircooled cylinders have one or more ducts 2 which bear against the fins 3 and through which air is drawn or forced, the ducts are arranged at right angles to the fins and are annular when applied to longitudinal fins. In multicylinder engines the ducts are arranged between the cylinders on one side of the engine and opposite the cylinder axes on the other side. Air may be drawn through the ducts by the ejector action of the exhaust and the end of the exhaust pipe which enters the air duct may have lateral outlets to divide the current.
