Abstract

In the deacidification of glycerides by treatment with an alkaline substance in presence of a solvent for the glyceride which is not a solvent for the soap produced, the neutralized liquid is heated, preferably to the boiling-point, and then cooled again to cause separation of the soap in a compact mass. The soap is washed successively with solvent, water, and alkaline lye, and may be converted into commercial soap. The purified oil and the solvent are separated by distillation. As neutralizing-agents, strong solutions of caustic soda, caustic potash, or lime may be used. Benzene is a suitable solvent for the oil.
