Treating or mixing with special material. - Yeast, preferably mixed with cornmeal or other absorbent filler, such as oatmeal, wheat meal, rice polish, a mixture of wheat flour and wood flour, potato starch, with or without the addition of malt, or potato flour is mixed with an aqueous solution containing a large proportion of water of an innocuous " osmotically-acting " substance, such as glycerine, magnesium sulphate, sodium chloride, calcium sulphate, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, ammonium chloride, or ammonium sulphate, and dried at a temperature not above 30‹ C. A saturated solution of a substance soluble with difficulty, or a dilute solution of an easily soluble substance may be used; the proportion of solution may be between 0.5 and 5 per cent. An inert hydrocarbon oil such as " paraffinum liquidum may also be added.
