Abstract
313,206. Dehn, F. B., (General Zeolite- Co.). March 9, 1928. Solid adsorbents for gases.-Base-exchanging substances produced by reacting an alkaline aluminate solution with an, alkaline silicate solution with addition of acid to neutralize most or all of the free alkali present may be used as adsorbents. The acid may be present as a component of the reaction mixture, or be added to the mixed aluminate and silicate or at any time before complete drying of the product. The final reaction mixture may be alkaline or neutral to phenolphthalein and alkaline to methyl orange. The concentration of the solution and the temperature employed are preferably such that a gel embracing most or all of the volume of the reaction mixture is obtained. In an example, a temperature of 5‹ C. is used. By increasing the proportions of silicate and acid used for the reaction the silica content of the product may be increased, and the end product before or after drying may be treated with a solution of an alkali hydroxide carbonate or bicarbonate.
