Abstract
<PICT:0416025/III/1> A double hydrosilicate of alumina containing at least 70 per cent of silica, not more than 3 per cent of ferric odide, and not more than 10 per cent of oxides of iron, calcium, and magnesium together, and in which the weight ratio of silica to alumina is at least 3,5 to 1 is used as a catalyst for the treatment of hydrocarbons and for other processes. The substance is preferably moistened with an inert liquid such as oil or water and moulded without the addition of a binding agent into solid or hollow cylinders or other suitable forms, which are baked to render them rigid. Other catalytic agents such as oxides of nickel, cobalt, copper, manganese, vanadium, and molybdenum may be mixed with the mass, and produce their effects independently of the hydrosilicate. Fig. 4 illustrates a hollow cylindrical body composed of a mixture of finely divided catalytic oxides and larger particles of the hydrocilicate. Specification 324,481, [Class 1 (i)], is referred to.
