Abstract

180,202. Reid, E. A. May 13, 1921. Air and steam pressure sprayers. -In an oil burner, oil is converted into a film which is atomized by falling past converging jets of steam or compressed air. Fig. 1 shows a one-piece burner in which oil supplied through an opening 8 to the upper chamber 1 flows on a downwardly-inclined floor 3 to a more sharply inclined and preferably curved lip 4 over which it falls. The lower chamber 2 is provided with inclined jet orifices 5, 6 through which steam supplied through an opening 9 issues. As shown in Fig. 2, the jets 5, 6 are arranged to converge in pairs to points 7 vertically beneath the edge of the lip 4. A cock for removal of condensed water may be fitted in an opening 10 in the chamber 2. In a modification, the floor 3 is fan-shaped and is provided on its upper surface with diverging longitudinal grooves. The Provisional Specification states that a roller may be fitted in the upper chamber to distribute the oil evenly.
