Abstract
228,980. Filma Oil Burners, Ltd., and Reid, E. A. Nov. 12, 1923. Spray burners.-A vertical oil burner suitable for use in vertical boilers or furnaces comprises a fuel-supply tube 3, an air, steam, or other atomizing medium supply tube 1 surrounding the tube 3. and a burner head formed by a domed cap 8 and a chamber 7 secured to the top of the tube 1. The oil issuing from the tube 3 lifts a valve 14 and flows in a film over the grooved surface of the cap 8 to a depending lip 12 from which it drops into converging jets of atomizing medium issuing from two series of apertures 10, 11 in the chamber 7. The cap 8 may be of circular, elliptical, square, octagonal, or other shape, and the apertures may be omitted below ungrooved parts of its surface. The grooves 13 preferably decrease in depth and disappear towards the edge of the cap. The lip 12 may have a scalloped or undulated edge. The points at which the jets meet are vertically below or in proximity to the edge of the depending lip. When steam is used as an atomizing medium the oil will be heated during its passage through the tube 3.
