Small chambers.-A domestic dehydrating-apparatus for foods &c. comprises an outer casing, supports for the materials arranged in hot-air passages formed in the casing, and a water reservoir located near the entrance of the hot air, which passes from the bottom to the top of the casing. As shown, the trays 21, Fig. 3, containing the material are supported upon plates 13 within a casing 10, Fig. 1, open at the bottom, and having air inlets 32 and outlets 16 covered with wire gauze, the draught through the casing being controlled by cover-plates 18. The casing may be placed on a stove or supported upon a oil or gas burner, and the hot air rising through the casing takes up moisture from the water reservoir 26 before passing through the trays. The reservoir is provided with a filling lip 29 and a handle 28 by which it may be withdrawn from the casing, the opening in the casing being closed by a plate 30. The flow of air through the passages 12 is controlled by wire gauze placed at either or each end of the passages. In a modification, the outer ends of the passages are closed by perforated plates, the perforations being smaller towards the top of the casing. In another arrangement, in which the perforations in the plates are uniform in size, the flow of air is controlled by adjustable perforated slide plates.
