UNITED STATES PATEN oFris.
STOVE.
Application filed Apri12, 1923. Serial No. 629,394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP CHoKAs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bluefield, in the county of Mercer and State of WestVirginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is' a specifica-i tion, reference being had to the accompany-' ing drawings. c v
This invention relates tocertaini improvements in stoves and has relation more particularly to a stove of a hot plate type and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved stove of this general character adapted for use in cooking all meats.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein means are provided to assure an even heating of the top plate Another object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character provided with means whereby the grease may be carried off or away from the meat or the like being cooked.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved stove whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use,
as will be hereinafter more fully set forth; The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1 will now proceed todescribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein I Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through a stove constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentaryend elevational view illustrating the damper herein embodied.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved stove comprises a hollow member M affording an air chamber and which is provided with a bottom wall 1 and a plurality of minute openings 2 and an end wall 3 with relatively large openings 4 with which is associated a damper 5 herein disclosed as a rotary type. The member M at each of its corners is providedwith a supporting leg 6 whereby the bottom wall 1 of the member M is positioned a desired distance upon thesupport upon which the member is mounted. I y
The side and end walls of the member M extend above the top plate 7 of the member and are providedwith vertical guide ways 8 with which are associated the top sections or cover members 9, each of said members being movable independently of the other. Each of said members or top sections 9 is provided with a plurality of suitably spaced relatively small openings 10 and with an operating handle 11.
Extending through each end portion of the member M is a pipe or conduit 12 open at its upper end said upper end being substantially flush with the upper surface of a top plate 7 and provides means whereby grease or the like, during a cooking operation, may be readily drained from the top plate 7.
As herein disclosed each of the extended portions of theend wall 3 has leading therefrom a drain pipe 14: which provides further means for carrying off grease accumulating on the top plate 7.
In practice the member M is positioned over suitable heating means such as a gas or electric stove and the air within the member M and below the top plate 7 not only holds the heat but assures a uniform heating of the plate 7. This is a feature of great economy as the air enclosed within the member M does not easily cool and the fire is applied directly to the lower or bottom wall or plate 1. This results in the top plate 7 maintaining a uniform temperature permitting meats to be cooked in very little additional grease and in a manner whereby the meats are thoroughly cooked in a whole; some manner and affording a better taste. With the use of my improved stove it has been found only necessary to apply with a small brush a small amount of lard.
The damper 5 is provided to regulate with decided advantage the temperature of the air within the member M and the cover members or top sections 9 when closed afford protection to the meats being cooked.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a stove constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is sus-' ceptible of some change and modification without departing from, the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself tothe precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim I 1. A stove of the class described comprising a hollow member, the top wall of which forms a hot plate, a damper controlled opening in communication with the interior of said member, the walls of the member the tending above the top plate, and cover sections associated with said extended portions of the walls.
2. A stove of the class described comprisprising a hollow member, the top Wall of which forms a hot plate, a damper controlled openingin communication with the interior of said member, the walls of the member extending above the top plate, and cover sections associated with said extended portions of the walls, each of said cover sections being provided with openings.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
PHILIP CHOKAS.
