Abstract

179,345. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Feb. 17, 1921. Separating and sorting gauges.-In a machine for sorting by gauging articles, such as rods or tubes, a carrier drum 25 supported in bearings in a frame 11 removes the articles 27 singly from a hopper 28. The carrier is driven by a Geneva motion 15, 14. The article is gauged by a lever 30 with a feeler head 34 pressing it against the carrier drum. The motion of the feeler 34 is magnified by the levers 30, 39, 42, aid is transmitted by a slotted arm 43 to the pin 45 on the distributing shoot 46 which is adapted to be locked in place by a row of studs on an arc-shaped lever 63 raised for engagement by a cam on the shaft 48. The shaft 48 also carries a cam 47 to release the gauging-feeler 34 after operation by the spring 36. Fingers are provided on the shoot 46 to remove the article from the carrier after gauging.
