Variable-speed gearing comprises toothed elements D in the form of trefoils or three-pointed stars engaging with a driving-eccentric A' and also with an internally-toothed ring C. A disc element B' carrying the elements D may be driven at reduced speed if the ring C is held by a brake L. Alternatively the.ring C is driven if the carrier B' is held by a brake E. Variations in speed are effected by allowing the brake in use to slip. A ball &c. bearing ring A<2> may be interposed between the eccentric A<1> and the trefoils D, which are driven through one tooth space for each complete turn of the eccentric. The eccentric is secured to a driving-shaft A, and the elements B<1>, C to sleeves B, C<3> upon it. The brakes L, E are operated alternatively by one lever Q.
