Abstract

177,336. Anderson, G. B. Feb. 7, 1921. Sliding - jaw wrenches; hand - grip wrenches; jaw faces.-In a wrench of the kind in which adjustment is effected by a worm engaging a rack on the sliding jaw, the fixed jaw 2 and the sliding jaw 4 are carried by a head 1 fcrmed on the handle 3 and provided with an elongated gap 9 to contain the worm 8 which is pressed by a spring 16 against the end 15 of a forked lever 12 pivoted to the head 1 by a pin 14. A loose plate 17 may be arranged between the worm 8 and the lever 12. After adjustment of the jaw 4 by rotating the wcrm 8 in the usual way, additional pressure may be applied to the nut &c. to be turned by pressing the lever 12 and handle 3 together, the worm 8 and jaw 4 moving bodily against the action of the spring 16. The jaws 2, 4 may have notches 19 to permit of a nut being gripped by its corners.
