Abstract

177,184. White, A. E., (Crane Packing Co.). Sept. 22, 1920. Plates &c., securing tubes to.-In condensers and like tubular apparatus, the electrical contact and airtight joints are maintained between the tubes and tube-sheet by packing the joints with rings of metal foil, such as described in Specification 145,186, [Class 122 (v), Stuffing-boxes &c.]. In an example, Fig. 2, the packing-rings 7 of metal foil wound spirally on a core are compressed between the ferrule 4 and shoulder 6. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the ferrule is dispensed with, the packing being confined between the shoulder 10 and conical wall 9 of the recess in the tube sheet. Longitudinal movement is limited by the shoulder 12 or the lug 15 on the tube, the other ends of the tubes being fixed in the tube sheet.
