Abstract
177,052. Inskip, W. F., and Nicholas, H. T. March 14, 1921. Air-locks and submarine escape chambers.-In a chamber a, for use in entering and leaving submarine vessels, the outer sliding door c is operated by a rack e and a pinion g mounted upon a shaft f provided with handles o, p outside and inside the chamber respectively. A shield is bolted over the outer door so as to be easily removable. An inner watertight hinged door q, provided with fastening-clumps and an inspection window, gives access to the chamber from the submarine. A pipe v, with valves w, x, serves to flood the chamber with sea-water, a draw-off pipe z with valves 2, 3 leads to the bilges, and air blow-off pipes y<1>, y<2> are located at the top of the chamber. An emergency sluice 6, controlled by a valve 7 within the chamber, is a so provided. Hand-rails 4 and a water-gauge 5 are included.
