Abstract

114,270. Fielding, J. Sept. 26, 1917. Submarine vessels. - A submarine is fitted with a single large gun adapted to be trained on its target by trimming the vessel. The gun b which is adapted to slide through a stuffing-box c in the fore part of the vessel is arranged in a chamber containing air under pressure so that the products of combustion are blown outward when the breech is opened. A protecting door e operated by a sliding rod f is pivoted or slidably mounted on the bow of the vessel or on the gun muzzle. The gun is sighted from a hood h with windows h<1>, and the vessel is trimmed by sliding weights or by water ballast.
