Abstract
124,454. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Horne, J. Jan. 4, 1916. Ports.-Relates to mountings for heavy ordnance carried on submersible vessels, and consists in mounting the gun in a fixed or rotatable gun house which has a port through which the gun fires, the gun being withdrawn into the gun house, and the gun port closed in a water-tight manner, when the ship is about to be submerged. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the gun port C is automatically closed towards the end of the rearward movement of the gun mounting B in the fixed gun house C by the actuation of a valve which admits pressure fluid to a hydraulic press D<1> and thereby raises a water-tight door D as described in Specification 124,474. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the gun port is automatically closed by a concave cover D through links d<1>, d<2> actuated by tappets on the gun carriage B.
