Abstract

176,974. Green, S. Jan. 24, 1921. Reversing-gearing. - Driving and reversing gearing for potter's lathes comprises a hollow speed cone o mounted on a sleeve p on the shaft or spindle r and a spring-controlled slidable hollow casing m having a clutch surface m<4> adapted to engage with the speed cone o. The casing m is provided with gears n<2> which are always in mesh with a gear q mounted on the sleeve p and also with a gear s mounted on the spindle r. In the position shown in Fig. 1 the casing m is clutched to the speed cone o and rotates with it, rotating also the spindle r by means of the gears which have no relative motion. When the hollow casing and speed cone are declutched the rotation of the hollow casing is arrested by the fixed stop plate t and the shaft is rotated in the reverse direction by the gears- In a modification the gears are bevel gears.
