Abstract
176,844. Inshaw, J. G., and Inshaw, G. R. Nov. 9, 1920. Skew-rolling. - Apparatus for forming, straightening, and similarly treating tapered mandrels comprises rolls A, the axes of which are in parallel planes but intersect, in elevation, approximately at the end a of the rolls. The heated work is placed in a trough B, which is pivoted at b<1> and is raised and lowered by an hydraulic ram D. The work is drawn into the pass by the rotation of the rolls, and is held between a fixed support D<1> and a bar b forming the bottom of the trough. Between the rolls the sides of the trough are cut away and the bar b is clamped between plates b<2>. The trough is stiffened by braces b<3>, b<4>, b<5>, b<6>.
