Abstract
194,363. McKane, J. Dec. 5, 1921. Tubes.-Angular tubes and like closed forms are made by grooving metal sheets, strips or the like so as to reduce the resistance of the metal and then bending along the lines of the grooves. The grooving may be effected by rolls or by an indenting tool of the guillotine type. In forming a triangular tube, the strip is grooved at the parts B, Fig. II, prior to bending. The grooving may be effected by a pair of positively driven rolls, the lower roll of which is plain and the upper roll provided with a pair of indenting ribs. Bending may be effected by placing the grooved strip against an adjustable stop mounted between a cover plate and a sole plate and bending the projecting end by a sliding bar. In another form, the grooved strip may be fed by rolls G<2> through a guide J, Fig. V, to perform the bending. According to the Provisional Speci. fication, the grooves may be formed by removing metal from the upper surface of the strip by a cutter.
