Abstract
393,444. Corrugating pipes. NELSON, R., 7, Herbert Street, Wellington, New Zealand. Aug. 27, 1932, No. 24031. [Class 83 (iv).] A machine for forming an annular ridge in the outer surface of a copper or like pipe near its end, particularly for forming an abutment for a union nut, comprises a casing A secured to a bench and supporting two parallel overhung rolls E, F, which are geared together at J, K, the roll E being provided with a ridge E<1> and being adjustable towards the roll F, which extends beyond the ridge and is formed with a groove F<1> into which metal of the pipe is forced to form the ridge. The inner end of the roll E is mounted in a slidable bearing D forced down by a screw H. The inner bearings are provided by a plate B closing the end of the casing. The roll F is rotated by a crank handle. The ridge E<1> and the inner part of the roll F are knurled so as to assist in rotating the pipe, and the roll E tapers down from the ridge so as to clear the end of the pipe. The groove is of smaller taper on its inner side.
