175,747. Quirico, J. S. Nov. 19, 1920. Two-stroke-cycle engines. - In engines in which a compressor delivers the charge to the cylinder after the piston has over-run the exhaust ports w on its up-stroke, the pump piston h acts as the inlet valve to the cylinder. There are two pump pistons driven from the vertical auxiliary shaft m; air or combustible mixture is drawn in through valves x, compressed and then passed through valves x<1> in the pistons to a common chamber o. If air is pumped, part of the compressed air may enter a by-pass and be used to spray liquid fuel into the chamber o. The exhaust pipes from the two cylinders are arranged concentrically so that the exhaust of one cylinder acts with an ejector action on the exhaust from the other. The shaft m also drives the magneto r and oil-pumps s.
