Abstract
175,403. Macrorie, A. K., and Appleton, W. A. Nov. 15, 1920. Thermionic amplifiers and detectors; heterodyne receiving systems.-Heterodyne receiving-apparatus employing a number of amplifying-valves C, D, E in cascade has a separate valve F for generating the local oscillations, this valve having its grid connected to the grid of one of the amplifiers E, and its plate circuit retro-actively coupled to the grid circuit B of the first valve C. The plate circuit of the valve F is energized by a battery X and potentiometer H, the potential applied to the plate being low so as to reduce the amplitude of the local oscillations to a point of maximum sensitiveness. The battery X as shown serves for heating all the filaments, and the plate circuits of the amplifiers C, D, E are all supplied by a battery Y. The telephone Z is in the plate circuit of the last amplifier E.
