Thermionic generators and amplifiers.-A piezo-electric element 2, shunted by a leak resistance 19, is connected between the cathode and the control grid 12 of the valve 3 for predetermining the frequency of the grid potential variations, and the impedance 2 in the plate circuit is such that the plate circuit is tuned to a frequency higher than, e.g. double, the predetermined frequency. The impedance 22 is kept as low as possible, consistently with the maintenance of oscillation in the valve 3; and the valve is given a high mutual conductance by employing a space-charge grid 11 maintained at a positive potential. The oscillator is coupled by a capacity 5 to the grid circuit of an amplifier 4, the plate circuit 9, 24 of which is tuned to the predetermined frequency and is coupled to an output circuit 8. To prevent back action of the plate circuit 9, 24 on the prime oscillator 3, a screen grid 16, maintained at a positive potential, is interposed between the plate and grid of the amplifier.
