Abstract

269,258. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., (Western Electric Co., Inc.). Jan. 15, 1926. Thermionic amplifiers and generators.-A thermionic system for producing oscillations of constant frequency comprises two tuned circuits one of which determines the frequency and the other the amount of power taken out of the main oscillating device. The control circuit 12, 13 is constructed of mechanically-rigid components and is shielded by a screen 14 from external interference or temperature variations. The control circuit feeds the grid of an amplifier 9 which, in turn, impulses a power amplifier 1 through a resistance coupling. The output of the tube 1 comprises a tuned circuit 3, 4, the mid-point of the inductance 3 being grounded as shown. A feed-back part including a condenser 16, diverts a small part of the energy of the main oscillatory circuit back into the control circuit 12, 13, thus maintaining the latter in oscillation. The value of the capacity 16 is such that it has no appreciable damping effect upon the control circuit. Stabilizing condensuers 6 and 15 are inserted across the plate and grid of the tubes 1, 9 respectively. Fig. 2 shows an equivalent arrangement for generating frequencies suitable for wired-wireless systems, a second resistancecoupled amplifier 21 being inserted between the control and output circuits.
