Abstract
613,854. Two-way transmission. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and GLADWIN, A. S. Jan. 21, 1946, No. 1972. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (c)] The invention relates to radio-repeater stations which handle in separate circuits two signals travelling in the same or in opposite directions, in which each of the received signals is converted to an intermediate frequency for amplification and is then reconverted to a new frequency for retransmission, the transmit and receive frequencies differing by a relatively small amount f1. According to the invention one or more of the beat oscillators associated with the frequency conversion is made common to both circuits. The Figure shows an arrangement in which one of the received signals fc is mixed with a frequency fo from oscillator 2 to produce an intermediate frequency of fo-fc which after passing through amplifier 5 is mixed with a frequency f1 from oscillator 5. The resultant product f1 -fo+fc is mixed with fo to produce the transmit frequency fc+f1. The other signal fc+f2 received at E is converted to a frequency fc+f1+f2 in the second circuit in a similar manner. Oscillators 2 and 5 are common to both circuits. In systems where the two received signals are of the same frequency (i.e. f2=0) a further simplification results from making amplifiers 3 and 6<SP>1</SP> and 31 and 6 identical. The invention may also be applied when the arrangement referred to in Specification 613,902, [Group XL (c)] is used.
