Abstract

161,256. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (General Electric Co.). Jan. 2, 1920. Thermionic detectors; audible reception of unmodulated continuous waves. - Continuous current, or current of sub-audible frequency, is detected in a telephone 18 by an arrangement comprising two thermionic valves 1, 2, the grid circuits of which are influenced by an auxiliary source 21 of audible frequency. The plate circuits of the two valves are oppositely coupled to the telephone circuit, so that when resistances 4, 11, 15 have been suitably adjusted no note is heard, but when a source 17 of continuous or sub-audible current is connected between the two grids, the valves are unbalanced and the audible frequency is heard in the telephone. The invention is applicable in the reception of continuous waves, as a substitute for heterodyning, &c.
