Abstract

297,507. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., and McPherson, W. L. June 24, 1927. Thermionic heterodyne receivers.-The local oscillator 0 of a heterodyne or superheterodyne receiving system is provided with a grid leak resistance 14 and condenser 15 having such values as to maintain the voltage induced by the oscillator into the coupling coil 2 constant over the whole frequency range of the oscillator. The separate valve D which is used to detect the resulting beat note is thus enabled to operate at maximum efficiency throughout that range. The frequency of the oscillator output is determined by the circuit 4, 8, 11, the plate coil being divided into two parts by a condenser 7. When the condenser 15 has a value of 0.005 mfds., the resistance 14 is approximately 12000 ohms.
