Abstract

535,106. Wireless signalling. WALKER, W. A. H. Nov. 2, 1939, No. 29209. [Class 40 (v)] A radio receiver comprises a normal receiving channel and an emergency receiving channel tuned to to a pre-determined wavelength, the arrangement being such that when a signal is received on the emergency wavelength the normal channel is rendered inoperative. The normal channel comprises the H.F. amplifier V1, frequency changer V2 and I.F. amplifier V3 the output from which passes to further I.F. and A.F. stages not shown. The emergency channel comprises the corresponding H.F., F.C., and I.F. stages V4, V5, V6, the output from which passes to the same audio-frequency stages. A lead is taken from the grid of V6 to a pair of amplifiers V8, V9 which provide a voltage for V10 which is normally biased to cut-off by the main negative feed-resistance R. The anode feed resistances of V10 are common to the screens of V1 and V2 the point x being connected to the screens of V1 and V2. The arrival of an emergency signal reduces the negative bias of valve V10 so that the increased anode current reduces the voltage on the screens of VI and V2 to render the normal channel inoperative. The emergency signal passes by way of link A, B to the output stages.
