Abstract

174,789. Mackaness, S. G. Nov. 18, 1920. Couplings for road vehicles. - In an arrangement for use when one vehicle is towed by another, of the kind in which a drum containing brake shoes adapted to contact with the drum is fixed to each front wheel of the towed vehicle, the brakes are operated by coupling-rods which allow the trailer to follow the movements of the towing vehicle. As shown in Fig. 3, the forward ends of the coupling-rods g are connected by a chain h passing through a V-shaped or curved sleeve i attached by leather straps j to the rear axle of the towing- car, the arrangements thus allowing one side of the rear car to gain on the other at a turn.
