Abstract

174,779. McKenzie, Holland, & Westinghouse Power Signal Co., Ltd., and Raymer, r. J. Nov. 13, 1920. Cupping.-A hand-tool for shaping or tapering down the ends of lead sleeves such as are used in jointing lead - covered electric cables comprises a tubular former 2 constructed with a tapering section 6 and a solid end 3 and fitted with a central mandrel 4. The end sleeve is placed on the former 2, and over the mandrel and the tool is caused to fall repeatedly with its end 10 on a hard surface, whereby the end of the sleeve is forced down the conical annular space to reduce its diameter and thickness. The open end 2 may be fitted with a cap having an internal central mandrel to form a guide for the sleeve.
