Abstract

Sliding-jaw wrenches.-A quick-adjustment sliding-jaw wrench is constructed with a nut 7 Fig. 4, having a partial external thread 8 for engagement with a partial internal thread 9 integral with a handle sleeve 10 splined to the shank 4 of one of the jaws 3 of the wrench. The nut 7 is formed with a continuous internal thread for engagement with a continuous thread x on the shank 2 of the other jaw 1. A spring 13 is arranged between the shank 2 and nut 7 to prevent movement between them as the sleeve 10 is rotated to bring the threads 8, 9 out of engagement to permit the sleeve 10 and jaw 3 to be moved axially for quick adjustment. A stop 7a on the nut 7 engages the end of one of the partial threads 9 to hold the parts in this position. Further rotation of the sleeve 10 carries with it the nut 7 which moves the shank 2 to adjust the jaws to their final position. The movement of the screw x is limited by contact of a washer 6, or a shoulder 5 with one of the partial threads 9.
