Abstract

Limbs, artificial. -A locking-device for kneejoints, for retaining the upper and lower leg members in alignment when the feet are taking the weight of the body and which is automatically rendered operative when the wearer rises from the sitting position, comprises a spring-urged stop 5 mounted in a bracket 7 in the upper leg member 8, which coacts with a vertical member 3 mounted on the pivot 4 and attached to the lower leg member by brackets 2. To enable the wearer to sit down, the stop is raised by a wire 10 attached to a lever 11 pivoted inside the upper leg member and manually adjustable from the exterior thereof, the lever being placed in a notch 16 for this purpose. When the wearer sits down, a cam 17 on the member 3 raises the stop 5 and lever 11 sufficiently to enable the lever 11 to clear the notch 16, whereupon the lever is pressed sideways by a spring (not shown) to the top of the slot 14, as shown in Fig. 4, so that when the wearer resumes the standing position the stop 5 is enabled automatically to move into engagement with the member 3 without any further adjustment of the lever 11.
