Abstract
170,580. Schmidt'sche Heissdampf- Ges. Oct. 25, 1920, [Convention date]. Man-hole doors.-A man-hole for a boiler drum or other container under high pressure has an extra thickness of metal around the hole integral with the wall of the container, and the thickened metal has a faced-up plane seating surface for the cover disposed towards the inside of the container. The steam drum C, Fig. 1, is made in three parts. The centre part is formed with a man-hole having thickened sides e projecting inwardly. The cover f is secured by bolts i and cross-pieces h. The centre part of the drum is welded to the end parts. In a modification, the thickened edges of the hole project outwardly, and the centre part of the drum is riveted to the end parts. The cross-pieces may be replaced by an outer cover plate r, Fig. 5. A tube l carries off steam escaping past the inner cover.
