Abstract

307,573. Ballard, W. E. Jan. 7, 1928. Tanks with constricted openings are lined with lead &c. by lining an open ended tank in the usual way, securing an end or bottom in the lining, filling the lining with fluid under a relatively slight pressure while the end of the tank is secured, and finally increasing the pressure to firmly press the soft metal lining against the end of the tank. The lining may have an inwardly projecting flange at its open end and be closed by a disc, or the disc may be flanged and the lining plain. The tank cover is secured by welding or burning, and the liquid in the lining prevents the soft metal from melting. Pegs which pass through holes in the cover may be provided on the lining. and riveted over when the lining is expanded.
