[Class 123 (i)] A domestic boiler has a hand-hole with a flange formed on, or constituting part of a collar 8 welded at 13 to the boiler wall 1, the flange presenting to the interior of the boiler a surface 82 forming a seating for the hand-hole cover 2, so that the inner face of the latter lies flush with the inner face of the boiler. The collar 8 is L-shaped, one limb 8<1> extending into the boiler to lie flush with its inner surface and extending outward so far that the cover when in place is also flush therewith. The cover 2 and collar 8 are circular or elliptical in plan, and, when circular, slots 12 are formed on extensions 10 in the collar and cover to allow introduction of the latter. The cover 2 carries integral bolts 5 passing through holes in webs on the limb 8<2> of the collar or through holes in external cross-bars 9 bearing on the collar. The collar is then held in place by nuts 6. Alternatively, the cover is held tight by wedges 20 driven between the surfaces of the collar and cover and lugs 17 with inclined inner surfaces thereon. An upstanding part 3 on the cover 2 holds a gasket 4 in place.
