Hollow - ware. - The closure c of a cylindrical metal chamber for resisting high interna.l fluid pressure, such as an air receiver, bottle for storing liquids or gases under pressure, or a drum or header of a steam generator, is formed from a separate piece joggled at d and placed inside the end of the chamber b, which is then shaped at g to correspond with the shape of the end piece to form an overlapping surface contact joint, the joint being finally welded or otherwise sealed at j so as tc form a continuous exterior surface. Short screws may be passed through the joint, preferably towards the inner circumferential edge of the end piece, and welded or otherwise sealed in position. The neck of the closure may be formed with a flange f for coupling the chamber to the source of air pressure or place of delivery or may be internally screw-threaded. The contacting surfaces of the joint may be machined.
