Signs.-Relates to illuminated box signs of the type in which the interior of the casing is fitted with fluted or like reflecting members disposed at a suitable angle to a sign-bearing face. A distinguishing feature of the invention is stated to be that the whole of the rays of light by which the sign is illuminated are reflected rays, no part of the sign face being directly illuminated. Fig. 1 shows a sign having a rear face 5 of plain glass through which light passes from a source 4 and strikes members 6 of silvered fluted glass, being thence reflected on to members 7 of silvered fluted glass, having the flutings arranged at an angle to those of the members 6, and being finally reflected on to the face 2 of the sign. The face 5 may be of fluted glass, the. members 7 of silvered muffled glass, the members 6 or 7 of silvered plain glass, or the front face 2 may consist of a sheet of fluted clear glass or of a sheet of plain glass backed by a sheet of fluted clear glass. Fig. 3 shows a form in which the lamp 4 is located within the casing 1, and the reflecting members 6, 7 are arranged respectively above and below the lamp. In the form shown in Fig. 4 the lamp 4 is placed above and outside of the casing 1, the top 6<1> of which is of fluted clear glass, and the reflecting members 7 or of fluted silvered glass with the flutings running at an angle to those of the top glass 6<1>. Fig. 5 shows fluted silvered glass reflectors 7 arranged in echelon, a top wall 5 of plain glass, and a sign face 2 consisting of, or backed by, a sheet of fluted clear glass 6'. Silvered fluted glass may in every case be replaced by gilded fluted glass or corrugated bright metal, and silvered plain glass or silvered muffled glass by polished or bright pitted metal plates respectively. Coloured lacquer may be applied to the faces of the sign traversed by light, or the front face be backed by coloured glass. Specifications 229/12, 2566/12, and 12950/13 are referred to.
