Abstract

Variable-speed belt gearing comprises an intermediate double pulley mounted upon tubes upon a spindle c, which is moved transversely to vary -the speed by pedal action, being slidably mounted in a frame n adapted to be clamped in position on a vehicle. The outer flange b is integral with an inner tube a upon which the outer flange e of the other pulley is screwed and secured by a nut f. In one form, the mating flanges h, i, Fig. 1, are respectively integral with and secured upon an outer tube g, which slides upon the tube a as the spindle c is moved to vary the speed. The tubes a, g are connected by a screw g' working in a slot k. The pulley e, i, which receives power from the engine-driven belt p<1>, is fitted with loose rings l to disconnect the drive at lowest speed. In another form shown in Fig. 2, the tube g is divided and the flanges h, i are thrust apart by a spring r.
