Abstract

169,819. Shaw, H. S. Hele-, and Tribe, E. July 6, 1920. Cup-leather packing; packing, non - metallic. - Packing for pistonrods, valve spindles, pump plungers, &c. consists of a sleeve 11 of rubber composition, derivative, or other flexible material, with inturned edges 14, 13, engaging the rod and a bush 12, respectively. The packing edges may be compressed by springs, and the edge 14 may be harder than the rest of the packing. The end 18 of the sleeve may be coned to engage a similar surface on the gland. The bores of the packing may be coned towards the flexible lips, which may be of smaller diameter than the parts which they engage. Specification 167,306 is referred to.
